If you are fitting a new kitchen in an existing or new property then there are a number of techniques that can help the job run much more smoothly, making sure you get professional results quickly and efficiently so that you can move on to the next project.

Clean Up
Existing kitchens could have years of accumulated dirt and grease, so if you are fitting a new kitchen the first thing to do is remove all of the old units, strip the wallpaper and any unnecessary furnishings and spend a good day cleaning, sanding and degreasing so that the kitchen is spotless.  This is very important if you are painting the walls, ceilings and woodwork or re-papering, as dirt and grease can affect the adhesiveness of paint and wall paper paste and create an uneven, amateurish finish.  This can be a grimy job but it will need to be done properly and will give you a nice clean start to work from when you start putting in the new cabinets.

Measure Up
Before you order all of the kitchen cabinets make sure you have double checked your measurements as this will save you hours of labor once the units arrive, as if you have measured correctly they should all fit into the available space quickly and easily and you will not have to make many onsite adjustments.  As soon as the units arrive open the boxes and check everything, even if you do not intend to fit the kitchen straight away, as it can set you back weeks if you get down to the job and the discover there are parts missing or they have sent you the wrong sizes.

Plan the Labor
Kitchens are not always the largest rooms in the home, so you will need to plan your team carefully so that you can get the help you need, without getting in each others way.  For smaller rooms you will not be able to work effectively with more than two people fitting, so set up a work area in another room so that if you need to doing any cutting, priming or painting of cabinets that are not yet installed then you can move into the other room and not get in anyone’s way whilst you are doing these jobs.
